In this week’s Austin Events post I’ve highlighted a couple of gallery showings, cheese classes and a brewery tour and tasting. I might have normally breezed past the brewery tasting and not given it much attention as I much prefer wine to beer; however after our recent trip to Seattle, I am now more aware than ever of the popularity of beer.
During our stay we chose to take a forty mile round trip bike ride into the wine country, our final destination being Chateau St. Michelle for a wine tasting. We passed many others on the beautiful path, all headed in the same direction. However, when we arrived we found ourselves to be the only biking couple among the other visitors. Curious to see where everyone went, we ventured across the street into the Redhook Brewery. Uh yeah…we definitely found them, as evidenced by the comparison of our vinyard bike rack to the brewery rack below. Bikers were lined up shoulder to shoulder on picnic tables, enjoying the beer and pub style food. We still preferred the wine, cheese, and salted chocolate but did feel like we’d missed the party!
The painting above is part of a collection by artist Jason Webb, who after three rounds of increasingly critical critiques won the ‘Eye’s Got It’ competition held during the 2012 East Austin Tour. Jason’s work is being featured in a solo exhibition at the Grayduck Gallery.
